Pretty Autumn Colors and GIF Monday (and that’s literally all, nothing more)

The Barney household on Monday mornings: When someone posts something on Facebook and it’s obvious no fact checking has been done beforehand: The current state of religious instruction in my household: What I look like if the bathroom is full and I’ve had coffee: 1,809 total views, no views today Share and share...

GIF Monday and Catching Up

How I looked when I found out that Alaska’s (my home!) same sex marriage ban had been overturned: How I feel when certain people continue in their fight to deny rights to others while still claiming to be loving: So, we’ve set ourselves up at home with a coffee maker (french press) and grinder. How I feel about my (near daily) cup of homemade coffee: When I decided that I wanted my tattoo and then made the decision to put it on my forearm, there seemed to be a very real possibility that I might regret it. So far, so good. I actually feel somewhat like this when I wear short-sleeved shirt and it’s visible: And now to play catch y’all up. We attended a LGBT family picnic here in Fort Collins. There are some great community resources here and...

GIF Monday and Taye is Cute

So, I am really enjoying my new job. My coworkers are awesome. Helpful, fun, kind. Seriously, they’re amazing. However, I (as previously discussed) am an introvert. I have to try really hard to come out of my happy little bubble and talk with people and get to know them. This is just part of my personality and does not reflect on the people around me at all. I often feel awkward in my attempts to join in and get to know people. Many of the nurses at work have worked together for a really long time, so they’re very comfortable with each other, their husbands know each other, etc. Me at work: So, my family and I have recently discovered Starbucks. I know, I know. Starbucks has been around a long time, but for most of that time we were obedient...

The Gay Agenda, A Birthday, and a Tattoo

Okay, y’all, in order to keep up with regular blog posts, things might get a little less polished around here. I may not have time to create blog posts of the caliber that you have become accustomed. It’s cool, though. I’m thinking we’re just gonna try something new. I’ve got plenty to say. So, I’m just going to say it. Stick around if you want, say goodbye if you want. Totally up to you. So, here’s a possibly schizophrenic post revolving entirely around “what is Toni thinking about today.” Ready? First things first. I’ve been hearing a lot lately about this so-called “gay agenda.” I recently read this beauty of an opinion piece in the Deseret News. Yikes! And yikes again! I’ve read so many things of late that remind me how thankful I am to be out of the...

The Month of August and Random Dinnertime Quotes (PG-13)

Now, I know I’m falling behind on blog posts these days. Forgive me, please? I started work and it’s been a crazy month. I had to work full-time during orientation, but now I’m down to my regular part-time schedule, so hopefully things will even out a bit for us. We still had plenty of fun this month, as evidenced by the pictures below. We did some hiking, some driving up really tall mountains, some birthday partying, and even attended a beer festival for good measure.     Moving on to the random quotes section of this post: We have some interesting conversations around the dinner table in the Barney household. Since we have stepped away from religion one of the things that I have noticed (just being honest here) is that we have a lot more fun together....

Prop 102 (What? That was a long time ago. Why are you writing about that?) And Some Hiking and Biking, Too

2008. Arizona. Proposition 102. One of the darkest and depressing times of my life. I already had some serious issues with the LDS church after investigating church history. I was still trying to hold on to the church that I loved, though. Trying desperately. One of the things that I did appreciate about the church was that they didn’t tell us how to vote. We were “taught correct principles and allowed to govern ourselves.” (paraphrasing Joseph Smith) Uh-huh. Proposition 102 in Arizona was to create an amendment to the state constitution providing that marriage is between a man and a woman only. Never mind that Arizona already had laws prohibiting same sex marriage….let’s really drive this point home. And donate lots of money to the cause. Here, even better,...

No More Blurred Lines, Painting Furniture, Farming, Biking, and Love

So, I love this video. I absolutely HATE the song Blurred Lines, but it has an unfortunately catchy tune. Damn thing. I will gladly replace the words to Blurred Lines with these words as they repeat in my head for days at a time. Unfortunately yet again, I totally use quotation marks for emphasis. Yikes! I will cease such activity from this day forward. “Maybe.” As I’ve already shared,we were a little short on furniture when we moved here as we had sold and/or given away most of ours before we hit the road. I’ve been finding some deals on craigslist and doing some furniture makeovers. So far, I’ve done dressers for the kids’ rooms. I’m terrible about taking pictures of my projects before, but I got some pictures during...
