This Post is All Over the Place (You’ve Been Warned)

“If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead. Because the reality is, I can take it. But for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with being true to who they are, they shouldn’t have to take it.” Caitlyn Jenner’s words. And I agree wholeheartedly. The argument about whether or not she should have received an ESPY award is beside the point. Make jokes, get angry, call her Bruce instead of Caitlyn, please, seriously, do what you have to do to hang onto your opinion of Caitlyn Jenner. Fine. But let’s have a real conversation about kids. The kids who are listening and watching us. How fast or how slow we, as a society and as individuals and families, accept and love all children across the LGBTQ+...

We’re Baaaaaaack!

Hello, everyone! Wow, we disappeared for a while there, didn’t we? So, I’m not going to be able to catch you all up on six months of our lives because that would be overwhelming (and probably a bit boring). I will do a quick catch up on the last couple of months through video and pictures, though. Enjoy!! So, those videos were primarily from the month of May. Now, we move on to June!                 Of course, you can’t expect me to get through this post without talking about the same sex marriage vote, right? Of course, I’m thrilled!!! We’re all thrilled! It’s about time. And, let’s see…it’s been a week and the world has not ended yet. As a matter of fact, nothing seems to have changed. Oh, except for the same...

Catch Up and Random Things Post

So much to catch up on here, dear readers (ie., the family members still hanging in there and a few faithful friends). 😉 Here’s a speed round catch-up for you… Thanksgiving was spent at Josh’s aunt and uncle’s house in Boulder. Loads of fun and loads of food. Then came December with some Christmas type decorating… Taye made a wonderful video for all of you. Christmas was peaceful (we celebrated on Christmas Eve because I had to work on Christmas). There were Christmas jammies, a yummy Christmas brunch, a yummy Christmas dinner, and some presents. The day after Christmas, I was off to Maui for a lovely wedding! Maui was gorgeous, but the people I hung out with were by far the best part. Love and miss you! Annnnnddddd now for some...

Christmas Past, Christmas Present, Sibling Strength, Original Poetry

Untitled By: Brinkley Barney I do believe love is a beautiful thing I feel it everyday It is ridiculous that you claim love can only be your way As if love was restrained to something specific What a horrible thing to say And as you spit in the face of something so happy It is impossible to keep my anger at bay You do not get the only say Don’t you see the soft smiles Light hearts, laughing tongues Dancing feet to love songs? You roll your eyes in disgust You call it disgraceful lust Monsters, you shout, Evil I simply have to say, that is not just A thousand year old book determines my sister’s fate? Something you so worship is filled with spewing words of hate Do you not see the people you’re crushing with all that weight? You fight against fundamental human...

GIF Monday (aka Nutcracker weekend excitement!)

This Monday’s GIFs relate to Josh and I attending the Nutcracker ballet in Denver with our friends Dave and Shannon. We made a weekend of it with an overnight hotel stay, lovely dinner, dessert, and breakfast before heading home. My friend, Shannon, and I do not get many opportunities to dress up and we took full advantage of it. We ended up going shopping together and found that we both liked the very same dress and none other would do. So, we matched. We got quite a bit more attention than I expected in our matching dresses. It was great fun. The day before the ballet I decided I needed to step up my makeup game. So, I went to Sephora and had a makeup artist apply makeup. How I felt after that Sephora visit: How I felt the next day when I tried to duplicate...

I See You, Mama

I see you, mama. Tears glistening in your eyes, welcoming your heart into this world. Contentment on your face as you snuggle close and fill her. Clapping your hands as she learns how to clap hers. Tears streaming, helpless as she fights illness. Exhausted and spent. Frustrated with tantrums and big personality. I see you, mama. Peering through the classroom window, slowly driving away. Worry lines forming as you contemplate if you’re enough. And also joy. So much joy. Pride. Feeling, in the depths of your soul, every word spoken to her. Always believing in her, more than anything. I see you, mama. Never-ending sleepless nights, waking to her cry. Later, sleepless with planning and preparation. Later still, unable to sleep until she is safe in her bed again. I...

Election Day Wisdom From the Mouths of Babes and….GIF Monday!!!

Election Day. It’s tomorrow. In case you missed the millions of political ads and signs. I sent in my ballot already. My first Colorado election. I had the kids help me research the candidates for school this last week. It was interesting to hear their opinions and to see the connections they made as they waded through the information about the candidates and where they stand on issues. Here are some gems either written in the kids’ reports about the candidates or spoken out loud while researching: “I don’t know about you, but I’m going with the hippie.” “Wait, I think this guy’s been smoking too much marijuana.” “Well, they all have flaws, but I don’t like his face.” “Basically, I think all of this is bullshit. They’re not actually going to do the stuff they say...
