The Kids Take a Trip of Their Own

For any readers still following along with us here at Barney Life, this is for you: Thank you!!! This post is for and about my kids. My kids, who, in spite of me and my raging personal anxiety, decided last fall to go on a road trip to Arizona. On their own. The backstory is that Taye loves Troye Sivan and wanted to go to a concert. She discovered that the nearest concert was in Phoenix. The kids have grown up going on lots of road trips, so they decided to hit the road and go the concert. Dominique, Jaten’s girlfriend, also went with them. She’s an awesome person and I’m grateful to know her and grateful that Jaten has her in his life. The kids planned everything themselves. They budgeted. They saved their money. They took care of each other....

Catch Up and Random Things Post

So much to catch up on here, dear readers (ie., the family members still hanging in there and a few faithful friends). 😉 Here’s a speed round catch-up for you… Thanksgiving was spent at Josh’s aunt and uncle’s house in Boulder. Loads of fun and loads of food. Then came December with some Christmas type decorating… Taye made a wonderful video for all of you. Christmas was peaceful (we celebrated on Christmas Eve because I had to work on Christmas). There were Christmas jammies, a yummy Christmas brunch, a yummy Christmas dinner, and some presents. The day after Christmas, I was off to Maui for a lovely wedding! Maui was gorgeous, but the people I hung out with were by far the best part. Love and miss you! Annnnnddddd now for some...

Love Letter to Colorado (Saying “See Ya Later” to the Road)

Well, here we are, my peeps. Here we are.  Colorado is stunning. The weather is great. The people are interesting. The hikes are magnificent. And…here’s the topper…dinosaurs used to roam here. I’m not even kidding you, folks. Dinosaurs. They left footprints. We saw them. It’s true. We think there may be some left still roaming here, though we’ve not spotted any yet. So, yeah, there’s that. We took the kids to walk on Triceratops Trail and saw some amazing dino footprints. Last Sunday, the kids and I ventured up to Boulder to visit with Josh’s aunt, uncle and cousin. We had such a great day! We went out to lunch, then to the Boulder Creek Festival, then back to their house for dinner. We’re really looking forward to spending more time with our Colorado...

Random Quotes, Part Deux

“Oops, I forgot.” Each week, one of the kids is assigned the task of caring for Cooper. This particular week it was Kye’s turn. Kye was enjoying playing in the dirt right outside the RV and he would take Cooper outside with him. Cooper has to be on a leash anytime he’s outside of the RV and we leave a leash outside, attached to something, and ready to hook onto his collar. I assumed that Kye was putting him on the leash all week. Every time I looked out, Cooper was sitting or laying right by Kye as he played. I thought it was cute, so I snapped these pictures. Right after I took the pictures, Cooper hopped up and I noticed that the leash was not connected. I asked Kye about it and as it turns out, he hadn’t been putting him on the leash all week. We should all...

Cute Guest Blogger Has Her Say

Hello readers, Today on this blog, something is out of whack, yes, something is VERY different. This blog has currently been taken over by Brinkley Barney AKA Toni’s daughter. You are probably wondering why I am writing and my mother is not. My mother has fallen ill with a serious case of writer’s block so all you readers get the privilege to read this blog post written by the one and only me. Keep in mind that the last time I wrote a blog post I was eight and I hope things have improved since then. Now, for those who don’t know me, (though I think most of you will) I am the second eldest of Josh and Toni and turning fourteen in two days. Aw, I am growing up so fast, I know, I know. I just want to be able to drive already. I am also an awesome kid, a really...

Let’s Move to Florida and Live in an RV

Just kidding. That’s not actually what we planned on doing. We have so enjoyed our time in Florida, but we are ready to move on. So, that’s what we’re doing. Soon. First, though: We made it to a theme park. We’re in Orlando, Florida. I think it’s a requirement. Okay, maybe not. I don’t know. So, did you guys know that theme parks are EX-PENSIVE??!! What? Yes. True. Why did I write expensive like that? I don’t know. Maybe like this would have been better: EX-PEN-SIVE. Then it’s broken into syllables. Yes. My OCD likes it like that better. Sorry, I got distracted for a moment. So, theme parks are expensive.  We would never have made it to a theme park if it were not for my children cashing in their future birthday presents for this year from their...
