Let’s Move to Florida and Live in an RV

Just kidding. That’s not actually what we planned on doing. We have so enjoyed our time in Florida, but we are ready to move on. So, that’s what we’re doing. Soon. First, though: We made it to a theme park. We’re in Orlando, Florida. I think it’s a requirement. Okay, maybe not. I don’t know. So, did you guys know that theme parks are EX-PENSIVE??!! What? Yes. True. Why did I write expensive like that? I don’t know. Maybe like this would have been better: EX-PEN-SIVE. Then it’s broken into syllables. Yes. My OCD likes it like that better. Sorry, I got distracted for a moment. So, theme parks are expensive.  We would never have made it to a theme park if it were not for my children cashing in their future birthday presents for this year from their...

A Beach Day (or two) and P.S. When You Question How I Can Possibly Have Morals, It’s Insulting

So we took a drive to Clearwater Beach in Tampa two weekends in a row. The first time, we got there too late in the day to enjoy it fully and the second time, we spent most of the day there. Clearwater is a beautiful beach, gorgeous sand and water, and it is also quite crowded. We enjoyed some sunning, some walking, some eating, and some playing. We’re winding up our time in Florida (provided weather up north cooperates), so we were glad to get a good beach day in. So, this week, we’re back at our favorite Orlando RV park where the kids have lots of friends to hang out with. We’re having great weather and things are much improved after last week’s bout of illness and refrigerator mishaps. The refrigerator went out for a day, but miraculously came back...

The Post of Random Quotes (parental guidance suggested)

Quote Number 1 “I used to think you were a bitch, but you’re really quite nice, aren’t you?” This quote is a rather eloquent remark made by a fellow classmate when I was a sophomore in high school.  And it perfectly captures my teenage angst. And my adult angst. Only recently have I been able to say (and feel comfortable saying), “I am an introvert.” I’m not shy. I’m not withdrawn. I’m not a snob or a bitch. I am introverted in a world that prizes the extroverted. I value deep connections with a limited number of people over surface connections with many people. I gain energy from being alone and expend it (sometimes really quickly) with social interaction. I am generally quiet and reserved, especially around big groups of people. I love people. I enjoy deep,...

How About Some Fun?

Hey, y’all! I know I got a little crazy last week and went all “deep issues” on you. Sorry ’bout that. Sometimes it has to be done. How about let’s get back to your regularly scheduled programming, shall we? We’re hanging out in Florida, yes we are. You peeps are having some cra-zay weather and we don’t want any part of that. The kids have had a marvelous two weeks with lots of friends time. We also ventured to Legoland Florida with a huge group of traveling full time families. It was awesome. The day was very rainy and a bit cold, but we nearly had the park to ourselves. There was very little waiting in line at all, so we just went from ride to ride to ride. Wore ourselves out, we did. Kye rode his first roller coaster...

Please Like Me and Feel the Pitch Perfect Love (also St. Augustine)

Hello!!! Do y’all (ha, ha, Jaten) see that cute little Facebook button on the right of the home page here? Do you? Yes? Awesome. You should definitely click on that cute button and “like” our Barney Life Facebook page. I will be posting extra pictures and more adventures on that page than either here on the blog or on my personal Facebook page. So, do it. Please? Whatever, if not. I mean, you won’t hurt my feelings or anything. I have prepared a bribe for you, though, in the form of a very silly video (I know you enjoyed the prancercising one) which you can only see on the Barney Life Facebook page. Ha! It displays our love of the completely awesome movie by the name of Pitch Perfect. If you haven’t seen it, you absolutely should. Or...

Trader Joe’s is That Important and Flying Monkeys are Scary

Let me just leave this right here: Did you hear angels sing? If not, then perhaps you have never experienced Trader Joe’s. I’m sad for you. It. Is. Glorious. Seriously. One of the hardest aspects of this life for me thus far has been grocery shopping. I’ve never really enjoyed grocery shopping, but back when we were in our sticks and bricks, I had a routine at least. I have no routine here. We have very little refrigerator and freezer space, so I have to go to the grocery store more often. And now we’re hopping around to different places and I very rarely grocery shop in the same store twice. It’s not comfortable for a controller such as myself. To top it all off, I have discovered that there are relatively few places...
