The Kids Take a Trip of Their Own

For any readers still following along with us here at Barney Life, this is for you:

Thank you!!!

This post is for and about my kids. My kids, who, in spite of me and my raging personal anxiety, decided last fall to go on a road trip to Arizona. On their own. The backstory is that Taye loves Troye Sivan and wanted to go to a concert. She discovered that the nearest concert was in Phoenix. The kids have grown up going on lots of road trips, so they decided to hit the road and go the concert. Dominique, Jaten’s girlfriend, also went with them. She’s an awesome person and I’m grateful to know her and grateful that Jaten has her in his life.

The kids planned everything themselves. They budgeted. They saved their money. They took care of each other. They had a blast.

They are truly amazing people. And Josh and I are lucky to parent them.

There was a road trip manual created by Jaten complete with individual job responsibilities, schedule, packing list, budgeting plan, and personalized coloring pages:

And off they went!! Below is a fantastic video compilation of their trip, shot mostly by Taye and edited mostly by Brinkley. They had a fantastic time and fully intend on road tripping some more!

P.S. There was no food stolen. 😉

P.P.S.

I know I’ve been MIA for several months. That’s just because I’m a liberal snowflake and I happen to believe that President Trump is a complete and utter joke. I think the news coming from the White House is a complete shit show that gets worse and worse every single day. It truly feels like an alternate universe to me. And that being said, I’ve disconnected a lot. At least on social media. I completely deleted my Facebook account. Not just deactivated, but deleted. My family and I are still active on Instagram if you’d like to follow us there. And I think the family and I will definitely be more politically active, though I’m not entirely sure what form that will take just yet. Love to all of you and yours!!

My favorite part was the plan to steal snacks from grandmas! That would be on my kids list too! Oh, and I liked the shit show comment and I totally agree…

Haha! That was a good part! Funny kids! The fact that so many agree with me regarding the shit show is honestly the only was I stay sane about the whole thing. Miss you, friend!

I remember my first alone trip… It was fun! I didn’t have a schedule, though. They’re on top of things. Awesome
