This Post is All Over the Place (You’ve Been Warned)

“If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead. Because the reality is, I can take it. But for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with being true to who they are, they shouldn’t have to take it.”

Caitlyn Jenner’s words. And I agree wholeheartedly. The argument about whether or not she should have received an ESPY award is beside the point. Make jokes, get angry, call her Bruce instead of Caitlyn, please, seriously, do what you have to do to hang onto your opinion of Caitlyn Jenner. Fine. But let’s have a real conversation about kids. The kids who are listening and watching us. How fast or how slow we, as a society and as individuals and families, accept and love all children across the LGBTQ+ spectrum will determine whether some children live or die. Sound drastic? It’s not. I could quote statistics, but you could also look them up yourselves. Children are committing suicide. Children. Because those around them, sometimes their own families, will not accept them for who they are. That’s all I can emotionally manage to say about that right now. Oh, and also, go Caitlyn!! Seriously. You go, girl!

And now….I interrupt this very important blog post for a bit of alien humor (courtesy of Brinkley’s Tumblr perusal)…

So, in incredibly fabulous Barney Family News…Jaten is a licensed driver! What? Yes, it’s true! Look at this:

Doesn’t she look amazing behind the wheel? Totally at ease, right? Listen people, I used to think that things like using a potty, reading, loading a dishwasher appropriately, and algebra were difficult to teach. HA! HA, I say! Driving. Teaching your child, your baby, to get behind the wheel of an exceptionally large metal box and drive it around at high speeds? Terrifying. And also sometimes humorous. Jaten tends to be very cautious, so I think that’s good. That being said, her siblings and father may occasionally refer to her as “grandma” I don’t want to say the following video clip was exactly her when she first started to drive, but I am saying that I identified with it. :-)

In order to catch you up on the last couple of weeks in Barney Family News…

We went on a hike/walk (I have to call it a walk to keep everyone interested in going).

The kids continue with school and Taye taught a very interesting art lesson…

And another interruption for some humor (let’s just assume all humor in this post provided by Brinkley’s Tumblr perusal). Also, a language warning. Do not read these comics below if cursing offends you.

We also attended our first concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater. It was amazing! It was the kids’ first concert ever. We saw Death Cab for Cutie. They were wonderful!

My favorite song from last night was Passenger Seat. They played a great mix of old and new stuff.

And in the continued saga of “What Will the Refrigerator Say Today?” we see that my children are (perhaps too early) obsessed with coffee…

And these children of mine are also poetic. And they have dirty minds apparently? So, basically: coffee obsessed, poetic, dirty minded children. That’s who I’m raising. Raising ’em right, I say. 😉

Lastly, the number one thing I teach my children (place this firmly under the raising ’em right umbrella)…

Peace out, my friends. Be kind to one another.
