Election Day Wisdom From the Mouths of Babes and….GIF Monday!!!

Election Day.

It’s tomorrow.

In case you missed the millions of political ads and signs.

I sent in my ballot already. My first Colorado election.

I had the kids help me research the candidates for school this last week. It was interesting to hear their opinions and to see the connections they made as they waded through the information about the candidates and where they stand on issues.

Here are some gems either written in the kids’ reports about the candidates or spoken out loud while researching:

“I don’t know about you, but I’m going with the hippie.”

“Wait, I think this guy’s been smoking too much marijuana.”

“Well, they all have flaws, but I don’t like his face.”

“Basically, I think all of this is bullshit. They’re not actually going to do the stuff they say they’re going to do anyway.”

Side note: Yep, we allow our children to cuss. It’s a personal parenting decision and not one that I expect complete agreement on. They don’t “get in trouble” for cussing, ever, but they are taught about appropriateness (ie. probably not a good idea to cuss in front of anyone related to them and over 60 years of age, if you cuss just for the sake of cussing you will probably sound immature or unintelligent). Consequently, the kids use curse words sparingly and appropriately and (fingers crossed) shouldn’t feel the need to cuss just to rebel against rules against cussing. We’ll see how that works out for us, won’t we?

So, back to Election Day. I don’t care who you vote for (that’s a lie, I totally care), just vote. Seriously. Vote.

Now, on to GIF Monday.

I love your GIF mondays! If you don’t mind me asking at what age (that is if there was a specific age) did you start letting the kids say cuss words? I ask because I’m not against cuss words but I don’t let my kids cuss though they are 8,7,&6 so I think they may just be too young still. Also the only thing i’ve done when they do slip (because lets be honest I cuss like a sailor lol) is those are adult words so we don’t say them until you are a adult. Any way got sidetracked there sorry I’m honestly just curious because I see your point about maybe it won’t be so bad later on (like me! lol)…

Thanks for asking about the cussing. I actually considered inserting a caveat about the minimum age for this particular rule. We stopped at around age 8 or 9. Before then, I agree with you that they’re too little and it just isn’t appropriate. :-)

Thanks so much for your comment!!
