Let’s Move to Florida and Live in an RV

Just kidding. That’s not actually what we planned on doing. We have so enjoyed our time in Florida, but we are ready to move on. So, that’s what we’re doing. Soon. First, though:

We made it to a theme park.

We’re in Orlando, Florida. I think it’s a requirement.

Okay, maybe not. I don’t know.

So, did you guys know that theme parks are EX-PENSIVE??!! What? Yes. True. Why did I write expensive like that? I don’t know. Maybe like this would have been better: EX-PEN-SIVE. Then it’s broken into syllables. Yes. My OCD likes it like that better.

Sorry, I got distracted for a moment. So, theme parks are expensive.  We would never have made it to a theme park if it were not for my children cashing in their future birthday presents for this year from their generous grandparents (thank you Grandpa T and Grandma Susie!)

We really did feel like we HAD to go to Universal Studios before we left the great state of Florida, though, if for only one (very important) reason:  The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

And let me be the first to tell you…it was AWESOME! We loved it. So much.

Some surprising observations:

-Kye loves roller coasters (even the really big ones that go upside down, Uncle Chris).

-The older I get, the more prone to motion sickness I get.

-Apparently, the standard uniform for theme park attendance (at least for women) is either exercise clothing or the outfit you wore to the club the night before.

-Not everyone knows Harry Potter references. Overheard as we were walking by the butterbeer stand: “I don’t know, Dad, but it’s not really beer!”

Some not-so-surprising observations:

-Taye loves roller coasters (especially the really big ones that go upside down).

-Everything IN the theme park is also EX-PEN-SIVE.

-There was A LOT of waiting in lines.

-Butterbeer is exceptionally delicious.

Walking to our very first ride. A horrifying roller coaster where you hand under the track and it twists you around and upside down. Yikes!

Goodnight, Universal.

Good night, Universal.

And with that adventure under our belts, we are off! We’re crossing state lines this weekend. We’re heading north. We have enjoyed our time here in Florida so much. We’ve met so many great people. We’ve had some great adventures. The kids are having such an amazing time here with their friends and it’s actually going to be bittersweet when we head out of here. We’re ready, though. We are doing this so that we can travel and see many things and have lots of adventures. So, here we go! We are going to be exploring the Savannah, Georgia area and the Charleston, South Carolina area first. If anyone has any “must see” places near there that they would like to share with us, please leave suggestions in the comments.

Also, on a completely unrelated note…I used to think that teaching my kids to read was the HARDEST thing. I have absolutely no love for phonics and sight words. Hate it. Passionately.

I was so wrong. The absolute worst thing is teaching your kid to drive. It’s stressful. So, so stressful. And I have to do it three more times after this kid. Blah! It’s driving me to eat chocolate. It would probably drive me to drink, except I don’t drink. Maybe I’ll start. It would probably make the driving lessons much more interesting.  :-)

And with that, I bid you adieu!

Gryffindor!!! I would use excessive exclamations as well. If I could go to any theme park, it would be Wizarding World of Harry Potter! How can people not know butter ever and be there? Muggles…

Make sure in your travels to stop by Norfolk Virginia. They have tours of the navy yard that last about 3 hours long. You’ll get to see all the active ships they are using. Aircraft carriers, destroyers, nuclear subs. And while your there check out the marine science center not sure what the name is its been so long but it’s fun to.

Hogwarts should be absolutely the first thing on your bucket list!

And we learned that you can order butterbeer at Starbuck’s. Josh really wants to try it!

So AWESOME!! I love Universal, but it’s been so many years since I have been there. There was no Wizarding World of Harry Potter back then, so I have never experienced the deliciousness of butterbeer. But I will…someday. And you are right, theme parks are EX-PENSIVE and EX-PEN-SIVE, but so much fun. I love roller coasters too – they are my favorite! Enjoy your next adventure!!

The roller coasters were lots of fun! I think I may need to take something for motion sickness next time, though. Yes, everything is incredibly EXPENSIVE, but I’m certain the kids will remember it forever. Lots of fun.

Toni, I’m in Waycross GA until Monday the 17th (march). Don’t know if you’re driving up the interstate from Orlando or taking the back roads, but the Okefenokee Swamp headquartered in Folkston Ga off US-1 or the Swamp Park outside of Waycross, GA (also off of US-1) are pretty neat places to explore. You’ll love the history in Savannah and Charleston. There are tons of historical sites. Have a safe trip up the road!
